Insurgent – Veronica Roth

INSURGENT

Just this second I have finished reading Insurgent and I have no words. This has been a gripping experience from the minute my eyes met the first pages in Divergent. Insurgent just continues on from the ending words of the last chapter in Divergent and the same can be said about Insurgent and finally Allegiant. I am so unbelievably happy with myself that I bought all three books in the Trilogy at once because I need to keep reading. I’m going to predict that this may be diagnosed an addiction in a few years’ time because I have missed out so far on a week of my life reading the first two books. To all the readers out there that had to wait between books, how did you do it? I can’t imagine how it would be possible.

Insurgent was equally as gripping as its predecessor, it was the perfect follow up book to the story and all the links kept the chain strong. There was not one moment in this book where I found myself thinking where Veronica Roth was going. In the back of my mind I knew every action was headed to an amazing climax and when I think about it, I don’t think the anticipation and suspense has actually faded from Divergent. Once again the characters are beautifully woven into each other lives and all serving a purpose. There is not one character in the book that doesn’t need to be there, they all set the scene perfectly and form the solid storyline of all three books in the Trilogy.

Keeping in mind I haven’t read Allegiant yet (give me 15 minute and I’ll have started) it is clear that Veronica Roth has sat down and written this entire story making the decision afterwards to separate the three books. I can’t see it being possible to have written these three books one after the other and still paying such attention to detail. Each character’s attributes are constant so you never feel like they have changed without you travelling the journey with them. The story is a solid as chainmail with each link, small or big being carried from the first book right through. The space the story is told in has no gaps, the reader follows each step and learning as the protagonist, Tris does along the way.

As I’ve said before if you haven’t read this book, get it immediately because I haven’t read a trilogy that compares. If you’re like me and the dystopian genre isn’t something you are familiar with then start with Divergent. I’m excited to read more dystopian books although I am hesitant that no others will compare after this. Therefore I am ticking another book off my Dystopian Reading Challenge with Insurgent which also happens to be over 450 pages and falls into my Chunkster Reading Challenge also. As I am Sure you can guess I am giving this book a 5 out of 5 on my goodreads list. This entire trilogy is one I will be reading again in the future.

So I must say my goodbye’s and open the covers of Allegiant to once again lose some more of my days. Don’t think I’m complaining because this trilogy is a much deserved sacrifice of my time.
