I am a massive fan on Lindsey Kelk after I was kidnapped by the hilarious world of I Heart New York. This book is no different and had me engrossed in no time as I fell in love with the main character Tess Brookes. Lindsey Kelk caters for the chick lit world in a way that any woman that picks up her work would be mentally unstable if they weren’t forced to stifle a giggle throughout the story.
About a Girl follows the life of Tess Brookes as her world is turned upside down and she loses her organised lifestyle and the future she had planned. In the same week she is forced to face her controlling mother, her work situation and the love of her life, leaving her feeling lost and in a crumpled mess on the floor. In a turn of events she abandons her mundane life behind and takes the place of her flatmate as she jets of to Hawaii on a photography assignment leading to adventure and excitement.
Lindsey Kelk’s writing style is only describable as human. It is easy to read and relatable to any girls with a crazy, honest best friend. Packed with fun words, humorous sentences and some stereotypical and mysterious characters, it is impossible to know which direction the plot will follow. A trait that seems to appear in all novels by this author is that it is impossible to get bored or distracted, action packed and addictive to the very end I would recommend this novel to any chick lit lovers or readers wanting something cheerful. A perfect holiday read while sunning on the beach or by the pool but don’t forget, a cocktail is a must.
I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars on goodreads as yet again I was not disappointed by Lindsey Kelk’s writing abilities. As soon as I finished this book I ordered the second in the series, What a Girl Wants which is due to come out in July and it’s true to say I am so excited to pair this book with summer weather and a sun lounger.
