Christmas Spirit Read – A – Thon TBR

christmas spirit read-a-thon 2014

We are back at the time of the month when we must read as much as possible to achieve or even beat our reading goals. The end of the month for me is always challenging because I want to read and complete so many books in time for a monthly wrap up. Therefore when a Read – a –thon comes along, it is the perfect motivation to help me stay motivated.

The Christmas Spirit Read – A –Thon begins at the stroke of midnight tonight and runs for the next week until the 30th of November. It will no doubt get me in the festive spirit and open the doors to my favourite time of the year. In preparation I am putting up my Christmas tree tonight and cannot wait to sit down in the glow of the Christmas tree and begin my reading.

Below is a list of the books I am hoping to read over the next week if not begin. All of them have a Christmas vibe or festive covers so I’m sure you’ll spot the pattern. Amongst these books I will also be wrapping up a few from over the weekend however you can check these out from my Weekend Reads post.

Let It Snow – John Green, Lauren Myracle, Maureen Johnson

This book was recommended by a young girl I met in work. I was serving her at the shop and she had Let It Snow in her hands. I asked her if it was any good and she said it was amazing and to definitely read it. We then ended up talking about how much we loved John Green and from that point I knew I needed to buy it. I love recommendations, they make books so much more exciting when you realise they have made such an impact on other people.

The Rabbit Back Literature Society – Pasi Ilmari Jaaskelainen

I was instantly attracted to this book because of its unusual name and beautiful cover. It seems like the perfect book to read at this time of the year. Not to mention it is about an unusual society of talented people who are mysterious and dark. As a literature teacher sets out to understand their purpose and the disappearance of an author, she finds her daily life wrapped up in unusual occurrences.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane – Neil Gaiman

This is an unusual pick; I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman so I needed no encouragement to buy this book. However it explores the strange memories of a man as he returns to his home town. He returns for a funeral, yet when he steps out to see the place of his childhood he is overwhelmed with the dark memories from back then. This book has been on my TBR for some time now and it is something that jumped out at me when I was thinking of different books to read this week. The deep blues in the cover and the dots of white probably reminded me of the festive season because it goes without saying that the blurb in no way compliments the Christmas cheer.
