I couldn’t wait to start this volume especially after finishing the last one. The Calm Before was filled with tension and hesitation of what is to come. After the ordeal of Woodbury and the journey back, the characters are left in a limbo, wondering if they are safe back in the Jail or if their location has been exposed.
I flew through the pages of this volume as it really featured the characters mental state, what they were thinking and how they are coping in this new world. It seems that they now not only face the danger of the undead but fellow survivors are proving to be a threat.
This volume was full of action and events that will really impact the plot further into the series, I am really intrigued to see what will happen now. One thing I’ve noticed through previous volumes is that the children seem to be better at adjusting to this world than the adults. Obviously the children are frightened and scared, not knowing what to expect but they seem to adjust. However this could be because they are sheltered from the majority of the danger and hideous sights.
This volume really poses the question of whether life can go on from the tragedies and lack of stability of this setting. Is it possible to be a family, to fall in love or continue living as normal, or at least as normal as possible. In the previous few volumes it’s noticeable where characters are trying to piece together some sort of life but I think the next few volumes will make it clear if this is something that is easy to do or not.
I gave this volume of The Walking Dead a 5 out of 5 stars on goodreads, it really intrigued me the entire way through the plot and it ended on a cliffhanger leaving me excited to read the next volume.
